Beaches

Alcudia beach, which is only an 8-minute walk from JS Sol de Alcudia , boasts a 7-km-long shoreline with soft white sand and clean waters that lap gently against the shore. One has to wade quite far into the sea before losing footing, which makes it one of the safest beaches in Mallorca. It is also the largest beach in the Balearic Islands, tracing the edge of the Bay of Alcudia, which comprises many more kilometres of beaches in neighbouring towns, such as Playa de Muro and Can Picafort. On Alcudia beach you will find several leisure facilities where you can practise water sports (windsurfing, slides, banana boats, ski-rides, catamarans, sailboats, pedal boats, etc.). There are also many beach bars, showers and public bathrooms, hammock and sunshade rentals, etc. It is the largest and most accessible beach in Alcudia, as well as the one with the most leisure options.

Within the municipality, just a few kilometres from JS Sol de Alcudia , you can find other beaches such as Sant Pere, Alcanada and Es Coll Baix, or even Sa Marina, which is ideal for kitesurfing.

Natural corners

Alcudia is considered one of the most privileged parts of Mallorca because of its natural surroundings. The S’Albufera Natural Park is less than 5 km from Port d’Alcudia, but there are several other protected areas within the municipality, all of which are perfect for a day out in nature. Some must-see sites near JS Sol de Alcudia are: Puig de la Victòria, a protected area that separates the Bays of Pollença and Alcudia and is also home to the ancient sanctuary of Our Lady of Victory; Punta de Manresa, a rocky coastal area with shallow coves and crystal-clear waters well worth visiting; S’Albufereta, a wetland surrounded by orchards and rainfed lands; Puig de Sant Martí, known for its Cave of Sant Martí, inhabited by two protected species of bats, and its impressive cliffs; and Puig de Son Fe, with its exuberant flora and fauna.

Leisure and sports

Alcudia beach is so large that you will be able to practise all sorts of water sports and land-based activities here. Beach volleyball is particularly popular here. And in the lakes area you can practise freshwater sports, for instance, at the canoeing centre (Olympic athletes come to train here!) and in the Wake Park.

Near the JS Sol de Alcudia hotel are several road cycling routes, including the ones that traverse the Tramuntana mountain range and the one that takes you all the way to the Formentor lighthouse, as well as mountain biking and Nordic Walking routes. What’s more, as a guest staying at JS Sol de Alcudia you will be able to use of our cycling centre to make the most of your holidays.

And lastly, mention must be made of the stunning 18-hole Alcanada Golf Club, considered by many to be the most beautiful course on the island, with breath-taking views of the bay. It is only 6 km from the hotel.

Heritage and culture

Having been inhabited by Phoenicians, Greeks and Romans, Alcudia owes its name (Al-qudya) to the Muslim settlement that lasted from 903 until the arrival of king James I “the Conqueror” in 1229. These civilisations have left beautiful architectural marks, such as the Roman site of Pollentia, capital of Mallorca under the Roman Empire, considered the best example of Romanisation in the Balearic Islands, the Roman theatre or the historic centre of Alcudia, with its stately homes, impressive entrance gates and walls. Every Wednesday there is a free guided tour through the historic centre of Alcudia, from 10:00 to 12:00, starting at the church.

Another place of interest in Alcudia is Sa Bassa Blanca Museum, which boasts a design by the Egyptian architect Hassan Fathy that blends seamlessly into the surrounding nature. The museum has been home to the Yannick and Ben Jakober Foundation since 1993, containing one of the most important private art collections on the island.

Another essential stop in Alcudia are its traditional daily markets, which sell local products and quaint souvenirs. In Port d’Alcudia, a market is held on Plaça de Cas Vicari every Friday from 8:00 to 13:30, and in Alcudia, on Tuesdays and Sundays from 8:00 to 13:30 in the centre of town. Don’t forget to visit the Nautical and Cuttlefish Food Fair, where you can see nautical products and try dishes made with cuttlefish from the bay. It takes place on the third weekend of April.
