Can Picafort is on the northern coast of Mallorca, in the centre of the Bay of Alcudia, surrounded by two natural parks, spectacular sandy beaches and isolated coves that can be found all along its 9-km shoreline. This ancient fishermen’s village is now one of the most popular tourist destinations on the island and both its geography and pleasant weather make it the perfect place for an unforgettable holiday during which you can relax with the many recreational activities available in the area.

Nearby are the attractive semi-urban beach of Son Bauló, which also bears a Blue Flag, and the beach of Son Serra de Marina, which sits between the pristine beaches of Sa Canova and Son Real.

Natural corners

Near our hotels in Can Picafort are two natural parks: the S’Albufera Natural Park, which comprises 1,700 hectares of wetlands (the vastest wetland on the Balearic Islands) declared a Special Protection Area (SPA) and a Site of Community Importance (SCI); and the Son Real estate, 395 hectares of dunes and pine and juniper groves, ancient sand quarries, beacons and several hiking, cycling and horse-riding trails. From the latter you can access the Son Real Necropolis, which is in front of the sea and contains tombs shaped like navetas and talayots. Also noteworthy is the Sa Nineta Talayot, which stands at the crossroads between Alcudia and Artá, a beautifully preserved Talayotic site dating back to 1300 AC.

A short drive away are the Llevant de Artá Park (20 km) and the Tramuntana mountain range (30 km), perfect destinations for trekking in nature.

Can Picafort has a sports marina that is just a few metres away from the hotel JS Miramar and is ideal for practising water sports like windsurfing, paddle surfing, snorkelling or scuba diving.

The surroundings also make Can Picafort a perfect place for practising land-based sports: from trekking, cycling and Nordic Walking through its natural spaces to playing tennis in one of the five municipal facilities with clay courts or golf in one of the many courses near our hotels.

Heritage and culture

The surroundings of Can Picafort and the municipality of Santa Margalida have the highest concentration of archaeological sites on the island, the most important of which is the Son Real Necropolis. Throughout the municipality are several possessions (constructions turned into rural settlements that concentrated agricultural and farming activities) and stately homes that give us an inkling of how society used to be structured. One of the peculiarities of Can Picafort, which is also the town symbol, are the beacons erected in the 1940’s to help military submarines calculate their position. Three of them are still standing in the urban area and they are relatively well preserved.

Market days in Can Picafort are Friday mornings. Also, the town’s main festivities take place during the first two weeks of August (the Mare de Déu d’Agost festivities) and reach their peak on 15 August, which sees the traditional rubber duck throw in the water and the great musical show and fireworks display. And in the same municipality, in the town of Santa Margalida, the traditional La Beata parade takes place on the first Sunday of September.
